Otter SG: Jim Conroy
The world of otters has lost one of its staunchest supporters: Jim Conroy, the Chair of the Otter Specialist Group, died on March 22nd after a brave battle with cancer. A great supporter of IUCN and SSC we will miss him hugely. A tribute to Jim will appear in the next issue of Species.
Nicole Duplaix takes on the role of acting Chair. Please send anything that would normally be sent to the Chair to her Nicole.Duplaix@oregonstate.edu with a copy to Lesley Wright lc.wright@yahoo.co.uk
Jim Conroy will be remembered at the opening of the next IOC in Pavia with a slide show. If you have pictures with Jim, please send them to Anna Loy ( a.loy@unimol.it) or to Nicole Duplaix ( Nicole.Duplaix@oregonstate.edu)
See the organisation of the post-conference tours in the Majella National Park (Abruzzo region, central Italy, program 1) and in the National Park of Cilento and Vallo di Diano (Campania region, southern Italy, program 2). I am investigating the origins of the biliary parasites Pseudamphistomum truncatum and Metorchis albidus in the UK, and am hoping to source samples of these parasites in the gall bladder of otters from across Europe. If anyone is able to help with samples I would be delighted to hear from you. For further information please email me at sherrardsmithe@cardiff.ac.uk - Thank you, I look forward to hearing from you!
